We will discuss the dependencies of black hole formation in neutron star mergers on the binary masses and the equation of state. As the merger outcome leaves a clear imprint on the different observables of a merger, the measured binary masses of a detection can be employed for equation of state constraints. We will also describe empirical relations for the postmerger gravitational-wave emission and discuss their striking similarity to those of isolated neutron stars. Furthermore, we will highlight the prospect to identify the signature of the hadron-quark phase transition in the observables of neutron star mergers.

Zoom link: https://uniroma1.zoom.us/j/86496887581?pwd=aVVRRXd2Z3pBbGZObVhEUjVZWjc0UT09
ID meeting: 864 9688 7581
Passcode: cCUG8j

Cheers,
Paolo

--

Paolo Pani
Associate Professor
ERC StG Fellow, DarkGRA project
Junior Fellow, Scuola Superiore di Studi Avanzati Sapienza

Physics Department (Marconi Building), 3rd floor, room 334
Sapienza University of Rome
Piazzale Aldo Moro 5 - 00185 Rome (Italy)
+39 06 4991 4472 (int 24472)
