Abstract:
Global informations about the Earth (such as its mass and its moment of
inertia) can be extracted from gravitational measurements. Propagation
of seismic waves allow us to infer properties of the crust, the mantle
and the outer core. The inner core, however, cannot be tested directly,
as seismic waves cannot cross the liquid outer core. Neutrinos can be
used to measure the Earth's density profile by means of electroweak
interactions only, thus giving an independent and complementary
picture of the Earth. I will show the first sensitive neutrino Earth
tomography result to date using one year of IceCube atmospheric
neutrinos data, and discuss the future prospects
