Abstract:
In the past few decades, several extensions of the general relativity
(GR) were proposed for explaining the present cosmic acceleration at the
cosmological distance scale. Modifications of gravity often either
change the speed or amplitude damping of gravitational waves (GW)
propagation or both. Therefore a GW is a new powerful tool probing the
modified gravity models. The multi-messenger gravitational wave (GW)
event, GW170817 (binary neutron star merging event) by the LIGO/VIRGO
collaboration and the associated gamma-ray burst (GRB) event, GRB170817A
put a very tight constraint on the speed of gravitational wave
propagation with respect to the speed of light. Large classes of models
are still viable which changes the amplitude damping of gravitational
waves (GW) propagation.
