In this talk I will present progress from the last several years in these different scenarios, starting with systematic tests of the direct collapse scenario and the conditions under which it is feasible. I will also discuss the possibility to have purely collison-based scenarios and their possible problems. Finally, I will present a new mixed scenario where the formation of a massive object is due to the interplay of collisions and accretions, including new results from recent numerical simulations.
