Abstract: The standard model of cosmology continues to enjoy firm 
empirical support from observations of the cosmic microwave background 
(CMB), especially after the achievement of the Planck satellite. 
However, there is still much we are learning, and will learn, from 
higher resolution and higher sensitivity measurements of the CMB from 
the ground. Not only can cosmological parameters be refined, B-modes be 
searched for and extensions to the standard model be tested, but new 
vistas are opening up, such as probing the astrophysics of gas in 
galaxyclusters and the cosmic web, and studying the variable microwave 
sky. In this talk I will describe recent progress with the Atacama 
Cosmology Telescope (ACT) and what we can expect from the upcoming 
Simons Observatory.
