Title: *Black-hole formation and postmerger gravitational-wave emission of
neutron star binaries*
Date: *Tuesday, September 28th @ 5PM (CEST)*
Abstract:
*One of the most basic features of a neutron star coalescence is its direct
outcome, which can either be a neutron star remnant or a black hole. We
will discuss the dependencies of black hole formation in neutron star
mergers on the binary masses and the equation of state. As the merger
outcome leaves a clear imprint on the different observables of a merger,
the measured binary masses of a detection can be employed for equation of
state constraints. We will also describe empirical relations for the
postmerger gravitational-wave emission and discuss their striking
similarity to those of isolated neutron stars. Furthermore, we will
highlight the prospect to identify the signature of the hadron-quark phase
transition in the observables of neutron star mergers.*
